The MEG Program

logoazulThe “MEG” (Master’s in Environmental Governance) is a two year Master program that was established in 2005 by the University of Freiburg. In order to promote a sound governance of the social and environmental challenges facing humanity, MEG students are trained at the academic level to acquire interdisciplinary skills. As a result, MEG graduates enter -or go back- to their professional lives as leading academics, decision makers, and experts able to reconcile environmental, economic, and social aspects in favor of sustainability. A maximum of 30 students are selected each year in a highly competitive procedure based on criteria of excellence and geographical representation (industrialised countries, countries in transition, countries with developing economies, as well as geographic regions). Thus, representatives from 29 countries have taken part in the program so far, contributing to the unique intercultural atmosphere of this Master’s. Moreover, the MEG program has been accredited by AQQUIN in accordance with international standards. Likewise, in 2007, the program was selected for the prestigious award for teaching excellence in the state of Baden-Württemberg. An Advisory Board formed by renowned and experienced representatives from the fields of policy, business, and civil society ensures the relevance and quality of the program.
