Scientific Theatre
The core of the 2012 Freiburg Forum on Environmental Governance "Setting the Stage for Sustainable Consumption" was a theatre based scientific discussion, which introduced and opened for discussion the topic of sustainable consumption.

Our scientific theatre - Science, Society, Sufficiency: three acts towards sustainable consumption, will focus on the following subtopics:
- Consumer philosophy and sufficiency,
- Global consumption patterns relating to food and agriculture, and
- The role of the civil society.
The Scientific Theatre will comprise of three short introductory presentations by keynote speakers (names to be announced shortly), three theatrical vignettes staged by MEG students and three discussion rounds. The student actors will improvise and remain in their respective roles whilst engaging in the discussions with the audience and the keynote speakers.
The project is a production of MEG students and director Marcelo Miguel. It aims to both inform and engage the audience in a vivid discussion about the topic of sustainable consumption.
About the director
Marcelo Miguel is a Brazilian theatre actor and director. He has studied
history in São Paulo and was active since 2005 as a teacher for Theatre
Pedagogy in the Seminar am Michelshof in Kirchheim-Teck. He is a part of the international theatre group Jasonites. He has been active in many theatre projects, including the direction of Kafka’s The Trial
in July 2010, Kircheim, Germany. He has led theatre workshops and
youth theatre projects in Brazil and Germany and has participated in
plays such as Marriage of Medea (2008, directed by Eugenio Barba), Ur-Hamler (2009, directed by Eugenio Barba), Daxi (Premier in January 2011) and Shaekespils (Premier in June 2011, directed by Julia Varley).
Apart from directing the Scientific Theater, Miguel with his
experience in theatre pedagogy will assist the MEG students to reveal
their message and foster discussion on the topic of Sustainable
Consumption through art.

Engaging in the German scene of global societal changes discussions, the “work in progress” play Science, Society, Sufficiency: three acts towards sustainable was performed in the Stuttgart Open Fair. The play was part of the event’s official program and contributed to approach the topic of global changes through a refreshing and embodied language.
